Course Description
The course objectives cover teaching the skills under the following main categories:
- Reading foundations & Phonics
- Grammars
- Spelling
- Vocabulary
- Reading & Comprehension
To teach the skills under this subject, the course uses a variety of teaching methods to ensure mastery of intended skills, as well as the correct applications of said skills and gained knowledge. The various teaching methods include: engaging video explainers, video lectures, advanced graphics and animation, interactive exercises, gamification, interactive illustration, various assessment styles, and online exams.
The following are highlights of the curriculum content, curriculum chapters, and English language skills covered in the course.
Chapter 1: Grammar – Part I
Identify and use various tenses (Present simple, Past simple, Present continuous, Past continuous, Future simple), Use imperative verbs to tell someone what to do.
Chapter 2: Grammar – Part II
Identify the meaning of various prefixes and suffixes (un-, dis-, -ment, -able, and more), Differentiate between countable and uncountable nouns, Identify the use of quantifiers (little, few, lots of, and more), Make the short and the long form of comparative and superlative adjectives, Identify the types of adverbs (adverbs of manner, adverbs of place, adverbs of time), Determine the meaning of compound words.
Chapter 3: Grammar – Part III
Choose the synonym or the antonym of a given word, Replace a given word with a synonym or an antonym, Choose the Homophones of given words, Identify and use words with more than one meaning, Identify common and the proper nouns in sentences, Use and write possessive nouns correctly, Read and spell common contractions (pronoun verb contractions and contractions with not), Use the correct pronoun (subject or object pronoun) to replace nouns in sentences.
Chapter 4: Reading – Part I
Apply comprehension strategies to texts, Learn new vocabulary related to various topics (Olympic Games, communities, strange animals, and technology),
Read and understand informational texts about famous Olympians, types of communities, strange animals, and new technologies.
Chapter 5: Reading – Part II
Determine the main idea of a passage, Determine the theme of a story, Learn new vocabulary related to various topics (festivals, hobbies, and crafts), Read and understand informational texts about popular festivals and crafts, Read and understand a story about favorite hobby, Identify story elements “Ryan’s Birthday Party”.
Chapter 6: Listening – Part I
Listening and comprehension, listen to short stories about hometown, good manners, childhood memories, and TV program about our universe.
Chapter 7: Writing – Part I
Identify and use transitions (to show the order of events, show cause and effect, and add a new idea or example), Identify and use punctuation marks (colon, semicolon, and quotation marks), Identify complete sentences, sentence fragments, and run-one sentences), Read and spell the words introduced in the no excuse words list (change, different, heard, important, picture, really, sentence, watch, teach, town, young, and many more).
